For this porting exercise, well start with the basics: bringing a simple renderer for a spinning, vertex-shaded cube from OpenGL ES 2.0 into Direct3D, such that it matches the DirectX 11 App (Universal Windows) template from Visual Studio 2015. I tried PCSX2 but it supposedly runs better with OpenGL instead of DX11. Some people prefer to use the multi-platform version libraries for sound, input, etc, but these all call directx one way or another, even most opengl drivers have to call directx in order to work properly (i still don''t know the exact reason, but something to do with getting a rendering context i assume). They are cross platform, but they have specific binaries for each platform, so the code itself isn''t, just that they wrote the same library for multiple platforms.
Most audio libraries (all that I can think of) use directx''s audio features for the windows versions. DirectX is more than just graphics (as mentioned earlier), and is pretty much the only way to gain access to certain things, so it''s not just that people use it, it''s that it''s the only way to do stuff (in some cases).
Uses opengl, and comes with a free linux binary so you can play it under linux, or windows.
